Every 2 seconds in America, someone needs blood. Locally the American Red Cross needs to collect over 1000 units of blood daily to meet the needs of local patients and hospitals. One trauma victim can use over 100 units of blood over the course of emergency treatment, and blood saves the lives of those with chronic blood disorders, cancer patients, burn victims, premature babies, transplant recipients, and many more. You can celebrate World Blood Donor Day and participate in the mission of the American Red Cross by recruiting individuals to donate blood in support of the "Out for Blood" race. Following the race, the American Red Cross will follow up with all pledges to schedule a blood donation appointment at time and place that is convenient for them. | Thank You to Our Race Sponsors! | 100.7 The Bay Wins American Red Cross "Blood Bowl"!Local Radio Station Collects 231 Units of Blood during Winter Battle of the Broadcasts
Hunt Valley, MD - April 25, 2008: Baltimore radio station, 100.7 The Bay was awarded the prestigious “Blood Bowl” award on Friday, April 25 in a special presentation at the radio station. Medical Director for the American Red Cross Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Region, Dr. Lisa McLaughlin, presented the award to 100.7 The Bay Chief Operating Officer Jeff Laird and recognized the station’s outstanding service to the community on air with Morning Show hosts Chris Emry and Michael Filippelli. The station collected 231 units of blood at a winter blood drive at the Town Mall of Westminster in January. The blood drive was hosted and promoted by the station as part of the GC&P “100.7 The Bay has demonstrated a true commitment to the community. This blood drive is just one of many that the station holds each year, and everyone is really motivated to make sure each blood drive is a success.” says Dr. Lisa McLaughlin, Medical Director for the GC&P Region. “The winter months can be a particularly challenging time to collect enough blood to meet the demand of local patients, and 100.7 The Bay has helped us reach the community time and time again during critical shortages. I know how important blood is to patient health, and without the support of dedicated community partners like 100.7 The Bay, we simply would not be able to meet the needs of patients and hospitals in this area.” The Battle of the Broadcasts is an annual competition that invites local media to donate air time and advertising space to promote a community blood drive. The station that collects the most units of blood wins the “Blood Bowl” and special recognition at the American Red Cross GC&P Region’s Annual Meeting. Because of the success of this year’s Winter Battle of the Broadcasts, the GC&P Region is adding a Summer Battle to be held from August 1-31, 2008. Interested media outlets may call 1-800-787-9282, ext. 4925 for information on how to schedule a blood drive. The need for blood is ongoing, and the coming summer months can often bring acute blood shortages. To schedule a donation appointment, please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543). As a token of appreciation, all participants will receive a special gift form the American Red Cross. The need is constant. The gratification is instant. Give Blood.™ WHO CAN GIVE BLOOD?
